City wide Community Council elections are held every four years, the last one was held in Autumn 2019. Any eligible person can stand for election. Eligible persons are those aged sixteen or over, who appear on the electoral register and live within the Community Council area.

Where a Community Council has a casual vacancy that may be filled through co-opting a new member or through an election process at an Extraordinary General Meeting.

Should a Community Councils quorum of elected representatives not be reached due to casual vacancies arising, the City of Edinburgh Council may call an election.
