£EITH DECIDES APPLICATIONS STILL NEEDED

Hello Everyone

Applications are still needed to provide a good choice of projects for the people of Leith.  Making an application gives the opportunity to get a grant of up to £1,000 for a Leith project.  But, it does more than that.  Applicant groups / organisations become part of the £eith decides publicity which promotes the groups and organisations involved.  Posters are displayed in libraries as well as information going out on the Neighbourhood Partnership website and social media.  However, The Leith Event in February attracts hundreds of local people, providing valuable networking opportunities and enables participating applicants to recruit new participants, members or volunteers.

The decision is made on the day of the event (7 February) for projects to be completed by 31 August.  So good timing for any Spring and/or Summer 2015 events or projects.  Projects who have been made awards in the past have benefitted children, young people, older people, families as well as people vulnerable for a number of reasons.  There have been a wide range of projects involving the arts, such as music, drama, dance and painting; the environment such as gardening and clean up campaigns; fun activities such as imaginative play, camping, sailing and day trips; skills training for young people and jobseekers; support for people with physical disabilities or mental health issues.  And more……..

So spread the word and get those talented and capable Leithers involved.  See the website http://www.edinburghnp.org.uk/neighbourhood-partnerships/leith/about/%C2%A3eith-decides/  to download an easy to complete application and easy to understand guidelines.

Applications to be in by 28 November 2014.  This can be e-mailed toLoraine.duckworth@edinburgh.gov.uk (hard copy with signatures may need to be provided at a later date.)

After more than a decade, the Annual Volunteer Recruitment Fair is firmly positioned as the capital city’s volunteering event of the year.  It will showcase volunteering opportunities from across the city, putting potential volunteers in touch with hundreds of organisations.
If you’re considering volunteering, this is a fantastic opportunity to meet face to face with around fifty organisations currently looking for volunteers plus access hundreds of other volunteering opportunities, all under one roof.
Last year our volunteer recruitment fair helped around 1,000 people in their search for volunteering opportunities to make connections with the organisations that needed them.  Make sure you’re one of them this year.
There are many benefits to volunteering, it’s a great way to use and develop your skills, try something new, make new friends and contacts, boost your confidence and general wellbeing, gain valuable experience, and of course, make a real difference!

“There is such a variety of organisations looking for volunteers! I was amazed. I had the chance to talk face to face with a number that had opportunities that I found very interesting and really looking forward to getting started. I don’t think I could have got this far so quickly in my search without the opportunity to have direct conversations with so many organisations”.

“It makes such a difference having human contact rather than trawling a website – I could really get a feel for what an organisation was about and make sure that they were the right ones for me. Really very helpful”.

“I was astounded at the wide range in the city.”

“Very friendly people on stalls. Lots of info and well organised. Thank you!”

“Surprised to find exciting groups I’d never heard of almost on my doorstep.”

“Lots on offer, people friendly approachable and willing to answer questions.”
