The Mela makes a welcome return to Leith Links from Friday,31st August to Sunday, 2nd September with a new programme of events which should have something of interest for everyone. On Friday evening there is a free event on Leith Links to thank local residents for their support. A performance of the Rama and Sita story using shadow puppetry, classical Indian dance and music using a giant screen should make the opening night something to remember. Leith Links welcomes the gala with the usual mix of stalls,food and live music. The Leith Community Councils have a stall with thanks to the local neighbourhood partnership. The theme this year is a vision for Leith Walk. We’ll be asking locals what they would like to see to make it a safer,cleaner and more attractive place to visit for locals residents and tourists. All we need is great weather but be sure to pack a brolly,thermals,jumper,hat………
The event for parents and carers of young children returns to the Links from 1st to 3rd June. Admission is free with stalls and tents supplying advice and entertainment for parents
The next meeting of the community council will also be our AGM. We meet in Duncan Place Community Centre at 7pm.The election of office bearers has been delayed until next year due to the local council elections this year. If you live in the Leith Links area and have an interest in the many issues which impact on local residents we would be happy to see you. Our councillors for the Leith Ward will all be there to listen to any concerns you would like to raise.

But despite this rhetoric, Scottish Government has recently published draft proposals for biomass subsidies that would see companies like Forth Energy earn windfalls of over £170millions every year for biomass power stations at Dundee, Rosyth, and Grangemouth – and maybe Leith, again, if they come back with another proposal in future. Ayrshire Power, which proposes a coal, and biomass power station at Hunterston in Ayrshire, would gain over £91milion a year from public subsidies, for co-firing biomass with coal, if their project is approved.
Please come along to support this demo, if you can. An hour spent NOW on persuading MSPs not to vote through subsidies for industrial biomass could save us all years of protesting against individual horrors like the proposed Leith biomass plant, in future.
With local City Council elections in May the Community Council have organised an event at Leith Community Centre to give local residents in the Leith Ward and opportunity to meet the candidates ,hear their views and ask a few questions. Questions can be submitted on paper when you arrive. The meeting will start at 7.30pm and we hope for a reasonable turn out.Leith%20Hustings%20Poster[1]
