LEITH LINKS COMMUNITY COUNCIL BIOMASS OBJECTION LETTER

Like many other concerned public groups the community council submitted an objection to the proposed power station. The Forth Energy plan is now with Scottish Government and 1800 objections were received by the closing date of 11 March. City of Edinburgh Council, Scottish Natural Heritage and SEPA who are statutary consultees have a longer time frame to lodge any objections they may have. The council planning committee who will decide the city councils position hope to meet in May and will invite members of Forth Energy and local residents involved in the campaign to prevent the power station. They will be given time to speak for and against the proposal. LLCC LETTER FINAL VERSION

The first snowdrop

the first snowdropWinter’s not over yet, but good to see the first signs of last year’s bulb planting efforts, where around 200 local school children joined Leith Links Community Council to plant another 7,000 crocus and snowdrop bulbs. We worked mostly in the area in the centre of Leith Links West, around the millennium Park plaque.

Biomass Campaign Update

Last night I attended Leith Harbour and Newhaven Community Councils well attended meeting which was focused on Forth Energy’s proposal a power plant. After another slick presentation from Forth Energy there was time for many good questions from concerned members of the local community and  I’m glad to report that  there was overwhelming support for LHNCC to oppose it. Having another community council taking this decision is welcomed and we hope to work together to bring the whole project to the attention of local Leith residents who are still unaware of scale of this plan. LEITH LINKS COMMUNITY COUNCIL NEXT MEETING 31/01/2011

A New Year and a new venue. The next meeting will take place on Monday, 31st January 2011 at Duncan Place Community Centre starting at 7pm. We’ve had to change the start time as the centre closes earlier but hope the change may attract new faces to our meetings. If you live in the Leith Links area and have an interest on what goes on in your local community it would be great to see you. You can print off an Agenda here agenda 310111

Happy New Year from Leith Links CC

I hope you had a enjoyable and peaceful festive period and hope that 2011 is a good year for you all. With a new year the community council will also be moving to a new venue for meetings. Our next meeting which will take place on Monday, 31st January will be held at Duncan Place Community Centre and hope the move may attract new faces to get involved with local community issues. At our last meeting in November Leith Links Community Council voted to support the campaign against Forth Energy’s proposal for a huge power station to be built in the Leith Dock area. I suspect January is going to be a busy month as the Forth Energy plan should be submitted to Scottish Government next week and hope we can get volunteers to help get the message out to local residents who still haven’t heard about the plan. Concerned groups only have 28 days to submit objections from when the plan goes to the Scottish Government who will then make the final decision. If you want to sign the petition please visit the campaign site at www.noleithbiomass.org.uk
