Warning – major and disruptive roadworks coming soon to our area!

Major Roadworks are starting soon along Seafield Road, Salamander Street and Baltic Street – see the Council page (link below) for full details. The first phase starts on Monday 2nd November at Seafield and the full programme of works will gradually progress along from east to west along Salamander, towards Bernard Street.

Undoubtedly this will massively impact all the streets in our area, as all traffic including large lorries will be diverted along Claremont Park / Duke Street /Great Junction Street (and in some cases, even up round via Moira Terrace, Craigentinny and Restalrig Road!). So, many of us in Leith Links will need to plan our journeys well ahead and leave plenty of extra time. We have not yet heard as to whether Lothian Buses (e.g. No. 1, No. 34) will be affected, so it might be wise to keep checking on these before you set off – some routes may be diverted or even cancelled, and others may be diverted and/or journey times increased.

It is concerning that the Community Council was not consulted or informed on any of this – although we could not prevent it (and certainly the road surfaces and pavements etc. do need attention), we could at least have explored /suggested mitigation (such as suspending the bus-gate on Links Place) and given local residents and businesses better advance warning. (We only found out about it this morning as did many others, via ‘I Love Leith’ on Facebook – surely that’s not the best way for a Council to keep its citizens informed!?)
