Voting opens on Saturday 6 February 2016 at 12.30pm at the launch event in Leith Community Centre. You’ll have until 3pm to speak to applicant organisations about their projects and the work they do in Leith, and then vote.
If you can’t make it along to the event, you’ll be able to see information about the projects and vote in Leith and McDonald Road libraries from 3pm Saturday 6 February until 5pm Tuesday 16 February. You can also print a voting form from the internet and send it to us.
Project information will also be listed here in early January 2016.
£eith decides is an approach used by Leith Neighbourhood Partnership to allocate 50% of its Community Grants Fund.
This type of approach is called Participatory Budgeting (PB) and allows you to decide about issues that matter to you. If you’re part of a local group you can put forward your own ideas, and then local people vote on them. So it is more than asking people what they think – local people make the decisions.

On behalf of Veolia, the operator of Seafield WWTW, Scottish Water, would like to notify stakeholders that the second phase of the planned annual inspection of the Thermal Hydrolysis plant at Seafield is scheduled to commence on Saturday 21st November and should take approximately one week to complete. This will involve a further partial shutdown of this plant.
Shutting down the Thermal Hydrolysis plant, either in whole or in part, to allow for an inspection does not increase the overall risk of odours being generated. However, following issues with odour emissions due to increased sludge levels during the first partial shutdown of this plant in October, and drawing from the lessons learnt from that incident, Veolia has developed a series of additional measures to manage the overall treatment process which will be constantly monitored whilst this inspection work is undertaken.
In addition, a series of contingency actions have also been developed to deal with any unforeseen problems which may occur during this second partial shutdown. These actions are primarily aimed at ensuring that sludge levels throughout the treatment process are kept to a minimum. Increased sludge levels resulted in the heightened levels of odour emissions during and following the previous partial shutdown in October.
Prior to formalising this plan all aspects of these procedures and proposed contingency actions were discussed at a joint meeting attended by Veolia, Scottish Water, the Scottish Environment Protection Agency and the City of Edinburgh Council.

Volunteer Edinburgh unveils new HQ on Leith Walk
New premises to be opened by Edinburgh Lord Provost
The new headquarters for Volunteer Edinburgh will be officially opened by Edinburgh’s Lord Provost, Donald Wilson, with a ribbon-cutting to take place outside the building at 222 Leith Walk at 12.30pm on Tuesday 17 November 2015.
Volunteer Edinburgh helps people find volunteering opportunities, and also finds volunteers for organisations that need them. With one-in-four people in Edinburgh regularly volunteering, the organisation’s mission is to inspire even more people to get active and become involved in their communities, enhancing their lives, and the lives of others.
In the last year, more than 65,000 visitors browsed volunteering opportunities on the organisation’s website, using a fully searchable database. More information about the organisation, including its 45-year history in the city, is available on its website at: www.volunteeredinburgh.org.uk.
222 Leith Walk has been a prominent landmark building on Leith Walk for more than 150 years. It has been a Victorian upholsterers and cabinetmakers, an Edwardian auction house, a billiards saloon and a pub. In 2001, it received an all-new façade and traded as an upmarket lighting shop for a number of years. The building was empty before Volunteer Edinburgh took it over. It has now undergone a major internal refit to make it a functional and welcoming place for people to come and find out about volunteering. In acquiring the building, Volunteer Edinburgh has not only established a great base from which to operate into the future, but it has secured this highly recognisable and much-loved building for the foreseeable future.
