This is your opportunity to view and comment on the proposed development plans for the dormant site at Salamander Place.

The original plan for the site was given planning permission in 2007 but due to the recession no building work started.

A new planning application will be made to the City Council but as part of the planning process and because of the size the developer must have a pre planning public meeting.

Please take the time to view the proposal on 22 March and encourage as many of your neighbours to go.

I’ve attached a plan of the site to give you an idea of scale.

Edinburgh Playing Out – Public Meeting

Edinburgh Playing Out – Public Meeting 7.30pm Tuesday 9 February at City Chambers, Royal Mile
A small group of enthusiastic people have organised this free public meeting to publicise Playing Out and the Playing Out weekend we are organising on Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 April.
Playing Out is a way of reclaiming our city streets for children to play safely and for all age groups to come out of their houses and speak to their neighbours. It involves closing streets on a regular basis (this is flexible, but could be one afternoon a month) and allowing children, under the supervision of their parents, to play outdoors. Unstructured outdoor play with all age groups is important for children’s development. Streets which already organise playing out see an increased sense of community and responsibility  Residents’ cars, delivery vehicles etc are still allowed access, it is just through traffic which is prevented from using the road.

Climate Challenge Fund OPEN

 The Climate Challenge Fund is open for applications from community led-organisations including community councils.

Climate Change Minister Aileen McLeod has confirmed the Fund will continue for another year, after it was allocated £10.3 million in the Scottish Government’s Draft Budget 2016-17.

The hugely successful Climate Challenge Fund has supported 756 community-led schemes since 2008, including energy efficiency, sustainable travel, local food growing projects and initiatives to tackle waste.

We invite community-led organisations including community councils across to apply for a share of the £10.3 million funding with grants up to £150,000 available per project.

With application deadlines in February we encourage potential applicants to apply quickly

Leith Decides 2016

£eith decides 2016 will launch in Leith Community Centre on Saturday 6 February 2016 from 1pm until 3pm. Registration opens at 12.30pm

 Through £eith decides, local people decide on how 50% of the Leith Neighbourhood Partnership’s Community Grants Fund is allocated.  Last year 1,625 people took part, and £22,092 was allocated to 25 projects, with grants ranging from £250  up to the maximum £1,000.

 On 6 Feb 2016, 30 community groups will showcase 36 projects that are eligible for funding. The event is the start of a two week voting period, as you can then vote by post or in a local library (from 3pm 6 Feb until 5pm 16 Feb). Local people (anyone aged 8 and over who lives, works, studies or volunteers in the Leith NP area is eligible to vote) will have their say on which projects should receive a grant, making real decisions that will help their community.

Edinburgh’s 2016/17 budget agreed

Edinburgh’s 2016/17 budget agreed

Thank you for your interest in Edinburgh’s budget. We received a record level of responses following the 11 weeks of public engagement, which gave you the opportunity to have your say on changes which may affect you.

At the special Council budget meeting on Thursday 21 January, Councillors considered the proposals and the budget engagement findings and agreed how the £950 million budget will be spent and where we can make savings for the future. You can watch a recording of the budget meeting to see the discussion.

 As a result of public feedback, the Council made a number of changes to the proposals, including:

 ·        removing the draft proposal to reduce street crossing patrols

·        keeping the night noise team

·        removing the draft proposal to reduce the size of in-house home care service

·        not proceeding with the redesign of day care services for adults with learning disabilities

·        removing the proposal for a reduction in community centre staff

·        amending the proposal to review support staff in special schools, ensuring maintenance of both staff numbers and service delivery

·        removing the £0.5million proposal to review family and pupil support

·        maintain the current level of support for community policing

·        investing £15.069million in roads, pavements and cycleways to continue to make it easier for people to get around the city

·        allocating 9% of both the net capital expenditure and the net revenue expenditure of the Transport Division of the Council to cycling

·        limiting the Council housing rent increase to 2% in 2016/17.

 The Council has also decided to:

·        carry our further consultation about providing music tuition in schools

·        increase the funding available to invest in our property estate by £3million

·        realign and revise our strategy on income maximisation to generate £1million of additional funds in 2016/17

·        get the most amount of financial return from the Council’s companies.

What are your priorities for your police service?’

The Scottish Government is reviewing the Strategic Police Priorities set under the Police and Fire Reform (Scotland) Act 2012.

 The first stage of this review is a broad discussion centred around the question ‘What are your priorities for your police service?’  They want to hear from members of the public, communities, local police scrutiny committees, and all those involved in issues connected to policing in Scotland about what is important to you.

As with most consultations, the more responses the better so please do share.
