You may have heard about Hibs winning a trophy.
But this is a fantastic trophy and it’s been a long time since it’s been back to Easter Road.
There’s going to be disruption on the roads today as the people of Leith come out to show their support.

The official Hibs webpage had the following information.

Hibernian FC today told supporters that the Club would celebrate its stunning William Hill Scottish Cup triumph with the fans in the city tomorrow (Sunday 22 May). No events are planned for this evening.

The highlight tomorrow will be an open-top bus parade, due to set off at 3:30pm from the High Street following a celebratory reception being hosted by Lord Provost Donald Wilson for the club.

This event will be followed by the public victory parade, which will see team members board an open-top bus and travel from the High Street to Leith, culminating at Leith Links.

The route of the parade is: Lawnmarket – High Street – North Bridge – Princes Street – Leith Street – Picardy Place – Leith Walk – Constitution Street – Queen Charlotte Street – John’s Place – Duncan Place – Leith Links.

Plans for the parade were discussed and have been jointly approved by the Council, Police Scotland, emergency services, Hibernian Football Club and Lothian Buses. It is anticipated that there will be a degree of disruption to traffic while the event is ongoing, however every effort will be made to keep this to a minimum.

Should we have had more warning? Possibly but it would appear plans have been put in place months ago just for this fantastic occasion.
Hopefully it won’t take another 114 years to win the cup again

The AGM of Leith Links Community Council will take place on Monday, 30th May

The Shore Room, Leith Community Centre, New Kirkgate starting at 7pm

The agenda and minutes of last years meeting will be sent out soon and we’ve taken a larger room in the hope to attract a larger attendance.
We have a presentation from the developers of the vacant brown field site at Salamander Place and someone from The Leith Hub to give us an update
on the Dry Dock Cafe social enterprise opening soon? in the bowling green pavilion on Leith Links.

The City Council Licensing Board are seeking the views of the public on amplified music in licensed premises.

Overview
Edinburgh Licensing Board has agreed to consult on the terms of its current policy on amplified music in licensed premises. The Board was asked to consider amending the policy, as set out in a detailed recommendation from the Edinburgh Licensing Forum.

The terms of the Board’s current policy on amplified music have been the subject of much discussion, including meetings hosted by the City of Edinburgh Council, and particularly its Culture and Sports Committee. That committee agreed to set up a working group called Music is Audible, which made a presentation to the Edinburgh Licensing Forum.

Why We Are Consulting
The Edinburgh Licensing Board sits separately from the Council. The Board is the licensing authority for premises selling alcohol in its geographical area. The Board has to agree a Statement of Licensing Policy which sets out how it will consider applications for licensed premises in its area, and all associated matters.

This consultation has been requested by the Edinburgh Licensing Forum, which has asked the Board to consider a particular amendment to its existing policy, relating to amplified music in licensed premises – i.e. live and recorded music, transmitted through loudspeakers.

Leathers don’t litter have organised another clean

The next clean up around the Shore is on 1st May.

One of their supporters suggested that in the tourist season we have monthly clean ups around The Shore, from Sandport Place Bridge to Ocean Drive. These will be short, 1-hour litterpicks always on the first Sunday of each month from April to September. Please bring your litterpicker with you. We’ll bring bin bags. Meeting point is The Shore at Sandport Place Bridge.

Starting from the Seafield end of the path this time as we didn’t manage to clear that end last time. Please come along if you can, and invite/share this event. The council will discuss health & safety matters, bring bags, gloves & pickers, but feel free to bring your own also. The weather looks good for us, we may even need sun protection 😉

Leith Festival are looking for volunteers to help at the Pageant and Gala Day on Saturday, 11th June.

After our successful interim elections period we now have a functioning Community Council again.

Our next meeting takes place on Monday, 25th April at 7pm in Leith Community Centre.

If you didn’t manage to get along to the exhibition on Tuesday, 22 March I’ve attached the information which was supplied by the developer for  you to look at now for the proposed housing project at Salamander Place. This large scale development will take several years to complete and could become the home to approx 2500 new Leithers. Any new development is welcomed but safeguards have to be put in place to guarantee new residents have access to necessary infrastucture like school places and doctors which are currently under pressure.

Nominations for the interim election of community councillors closed on 30th March and I’m happy to  tell you that we now have a community council for Leith Links again. Thank you to Linda Hutton, Adrian Graham, Phil Attridge and Michael Traill for coming forward to help us. We will all work together to try to make things better in your area.
