Controlled Parking Zones (CPZ) in Leith

A Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ) is coming to our area very soon.

Many local residents are asking for details of how exactly this will affect them and their neighbourhood. It has been very difficult for the Community Council to get any clear, accessible information from the Council.

At last we have been sent some information that we can share with you. This map shows where the zones are. Half of the Leith Links area is in the Leith Zone N8 (green) – due to become operational quite soon – and half is not. The grey areas called ‘monitoring’ areas will continue to have unrestricted free parking for the moment but may experience  ‘displaced parking’ from the green zone, hence the need for monitoring.

This is the Briefing Document outlines how the whole process will be implemented

Strategic Review of Parking – Phase 1 Briefing

This is the letter distributed to local residents.

Phase 1 Implementation – Letter 1

For more information, the Council directs enquirers to key web sites, which will be updated on an ongoing basis: www.edinburgh.gov.uk/parkingreview
This will include information about processes for applying for permits.

There is also information on the Council’s website, including information relating to
permits, charges and allowances, at  www.edinburgh.gov.uk/parking

Enquiries relating to the new zones and their implementation can be sent to

Maps

To see an actual map of what specifically is planned for exactly where, is very difficult. The only maps we’ve been able to find have file sizes too big to upload to this site. You can explore them via this link; scroll down and look for ‘N8 (Leith)’ and ‘Map Tiles’ https://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/downloads/download/15335/tro2103b-%E2%80%93-strategic-review-of-parking—phase-one

Health Warning – we can see that in some places the parking controls that are due to be installed are not all included on the map and instead are described in a ‘text based’ TRO – possibly relating to tramworks.  This means that the maps may not be accurately reflecting everything the Council proposes to do in the area.  We are asking the Council to provide clear consolidated map based information as soon as possible to avoid confusion and bring clarity to residents.

Since September 2022, the Coounity Council has been asking for a senior Council Officer from the Parking Operations team to come to a Community Council meeting to talk about the CPZ, but have repeatedly been told to wait until March, when all the information will be clearer. Well, it’s March. We’ve invited a speaker again. No response so far – we’ll keep you posted.
